📖 Study the formation of Islamic art from the pre-Islamic - Umayyad period to the Ottomans, Safavids and Mughals

AND

🎨 Create their own artwork through guided pattern and motif construction and sketchbook prompts.

All classes will be taught using an object based method and will investigate the cultural heritage and material culture of the Gunpowder Empires.

In Guinea Bissau, West Africa, entire villages are embracing Islam.

Though surrounded by populations that have been Muslim for centuries, the Balanta people of Guinea Bissau had not embraced Islam, retaining their own beliefs and customs.

But not long ago, that started to change, when the call to faith came from amongst their own - a Balanta elder known simply as “Mawlana”.

Entire villages have become Muslim following the example of their village elders- much like in the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when tribes would declare the shahada after the tribal leader / elder embraced the faith.

Sustainable Bissau, under fiscal sponsorship from @the_oasisinitiative is a locally-based, grassroots organization that serves over 50,000 Muslims, primarily new converts, in northern Guinea-Bissau in the Senegambia region of West Africa.

Sustainable Bissau provides full-time school programs for over 2000 children across 15 different villages and assists these communities in numerous ways, including building wells and installing drinking water infrastructure, construction and repair of mosques and school buildings, social enterprise and entrepreneurship development, and more.

Help Sustainable Bissau continue their work in these remote villages, to strengthen the communities in their knowledge of Islam and to address their daily needs.
